Bringing inclusion to the core
Why do we talk so much about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and do so little?
In our 46+ years in large organizations as diverse leaders, we helped our organizations make real progress. But, we were in rooms where decisions are made and also saw the reasons progress stalls.
In the last few decades , the DEI agenda has overindexed on the concept of unconscious bias, and one size fits all corporate mandates. They have had limited success, and have struggled to deliver sustainable gains.
As practitioners, we know that inclusion lives or dies in every moment of truth, every critical interaction or micro decision where we come across as inclusive or not. Leaders make the biggest difference, not as a collective, but as individuals, one decision, one choice , one conversation, one action, one outcome at a time, leading to macro change.
So we researched, read every thing we could lay our hands on (250+ books, journals, research studies, case studies, articles, etc), talked to people through Listening Labs and garnered insights and ideas from progressive leaders. This helped us come up with a unique and unconventional solution – Sustainable Inclusion.
Sustainable Inclusion is about unlocking the Power of Collective Genius. It is not just about seat at the table, being heard or feeling wanted, it is about having the power to drive change.

Flex @ Scale
Employees and employers seem to be on 2 different pages when it comes to return to work (place) and the need for flexibility. On one hand, companies are struggling to articulate why they need people in an office, what work (if any) did not get done due to remote work, especially in light of strong results. On the other hand, People are hurting and not feeling heard. The pandemic led to soul searching and reflections for many of us on what’s most important, and especially on how work needs to fit into our lives in a way that we maximize the value from our effort, and can be our best selves at work and life.
We have an opportunity to listen to what people want, try experiments, and pilots to see what works, and use a more data based approach to reimagine the future of work, and create sustainable work solutions that help people do their best work.
The pandemic has tested us in many ways, and we saw ingenuity, engagement, collaboration and inclusiveness at a completely new level. We have to ensure we don’t lose some of those hard won gains. We need a multi layered and multi faceted approach, not a one size fits all.
So we researched, read every thing we could lay our hands on (200+ books, journals, research studies, case studies, articles, etc.,) and garnered insights and ideas from progressive leaders.
We also invited a bunch of strangers to come together in our Listening Labs and share stories. What happened next blew us away. People from different walks of life, vastly diverse experiences, came together and shared stories of triumphs and losses, personal tragedies and challenges, and what they seek from work, and how they would like to reimagine the future of work – a world where they are seen as Just Human, Not a Resource.
Key takeaways from our research:
– The future of work is Hi-Flex and employees are attaching a significant value to this.
– Remote work is effective based on productivity reporting by people, as well as based on increased authenticity and comfort between co-workers, that helped people be more engaged
– The case for change is clear when we look at global low employee engagement and resilience levels, as well as the escalating stress and burnout.
The data is clear. People are speaking up. Surely we can do better?
This helped us come up with a unique and unconventional solution – Flexibility at Scale.
